Once you get to your destination, will you rent a car or get some other means of ground transportation? Rental cars can be a problem if you’re under 25, and especially if you have never been there before. I will generally get a car and check the place out if I know my way around or have been schooled on where to go. Sometimes I’ll hire someone to take us around. Like Allen our surf guide in Nicaragua. He picks us up and takes us everywhere. He knows where to stay, where to eat, and who has the best prices on the boats to take us to the breaks. Guys like him are priceless. Places like Nicaragua and El Salvador can be a nightmare especially if you have a problem on the highway.
Be prepared. When leaving the good old US of A remember you have a responsibility to act in a manner of mutual respect for the people and for the country you’re a guest in. Try your best never to become “an ugly American”. People in foreign countries will be helpful and friendly to polite foreigners as opposed to loud screaming Americans. They hate screamers that use profanity and drop F bombs.
If you’re looking for help choosing a place to go on a surf trip, maybe I can help. I can assist you with the airlines, rental cars, places to stay and spots to check out. What to take and what not to take. I’m not a travel agent, I don’t charge fees or get kick backs. I’m here to help those that want to plan a surf trip. But we do own a place in Playa Grande Costa Rica, www.casadeamigoscr.com that we use for guided trips, if you’re interested!!
